Story

On the 28th of February out of the blue my mum was rushed into hospital severely ill where she was diagnosed with septic shock which had been caused from the tiniest cut on her finger. As a result of this all her organs started to fail and by the afternoon of the following day she was in a coma and on a ventilator to keep her alive. On the evening of the 1st of March my family and I were told from the doctors in the intensive care unit at the Victoria Hospital that there was a high possibility my mum was going to die!

To the doctors amazement my mum managed to struggle on and over a week later was able to be taken off the ventilator and finally came round. My family and I were so delighted that she was still with us but it wasn't to be the happy ending we had all hoped for. I will never forget the day the consultants sat us down and told us that due to how severe my mums illness was and how the blood had been pumping to all her organs to keep her alive it had caused severe problems to her hands and feet and that she was going to need amputation to all 4 of her limbs!! This was one of the most devastating things I have ever heard in my life never mind for my mum. My mum was absolutely distraught and was saying she wished she had just slept away as her life was now going to be not worth living as she is unable to do a single thing for herself!

After speaking to the hand specialist we have learnt that my mum can purchase a bionic hand that will work for her just like her own so she will be able to live a more normal life and be able to do things for herself but it doesn't come cheap with a price tag of £50000!

To let my mum live the most normal life she possibly can we need to raise the money for this hand along with 2 prosthetic legs and an electric wheelchair until she is strong enough and able to learn how to walk again. Her house is also going to need to undergo major adaptations such as a disabled wet room, and made wheel chair friendly along with disabled access to gain entry to the property so my mum can return home and live safely and as independent as possible.

Before this tragic event, my mum was a very private and independant person who lived life to the full. My wish is that we try as much as possible to give my mum the support and aids she needs for her to continue to be that person.

We ask if you can help in any way at all big or small all your donations will be greatly appreciated and will be helping my mum in a way she will be eternally greatful.
