Running. Urgh.

For the most part, Matthew is happier as a sofa/human sentient hybrid, and Maria is more often atop a pair of stilettos than in Nikes… which makes neither of us natural born runners (except in the context of heading away from responsibility).

Despite this, the pair of us are running the Kew Gardens 10K in September, with the aim of raising some pennies for two charities close to our hearts.

The first of these is the MS Society. Matthew's mum was diagnosed roughly 20 years ago with MS, and life has been interesting since. It's one of those diseases that doesn't get loads of press time because no-one knows what to do with it, or about it. Just like a Kinder Egg, it's full of surprises, just, you know, surprising misery. So one half of it would be going to the MS Society to help research a cure and possible treatments.

Secondly would be the lesser-known Isabella Peatfield Memorial Fund, set up by her parents who are close friends of ours. Isabella was killed in the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004. Since then, Tristan and Kim have run the fund to help the children of Sri Lanka, having travelled over the several time to help rebuild, give aid, and organise things such as Christmas gifts. We’re forever in awe at how they’ve turned something incredibly tragic into something positive.
