Story
Joe is a 23 year old, born 6wks prematurely, starved of oxygen at birth due to the umbilical cord around his neck. At 18 months was diagnosed with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy affecting his legs & posture. He has visual impairment, nystagmus & mild learning difficulties.
Joe loves to be active, he attends Disability Initiative 3 times a week to improve skills on independent living & socialising. He loves his boxing sessions at Camberley Amateur Boxing Club.
Last year Joe had a powered wheelchair and a self-propelled wheelchair which he outgrew & following reassessment at E. Berks Wheelchair Service funding was no longer available for 2 wheelchairs and there was a limit of cost. After a lot of consideration Joe jointly decided to accept a manual wheelchair, which they will maintain. Joe was then assessed at the Oxford Centre for Enablement, and it was concluded that standing would be therapeutic functionally, posturally and psychologically. Further assessment with standing chairs has shown that Joe would be suitable. For him to use a traditional standing frame he would need maximum assistance from 2 people in order to transfer to the standing frame. These frames take up too much room (he did have a Lecky frame but it became too small). Until 18mths ago he walked using a Kaye Walker but no longer can and no facilities to stand daily has led to his Orthopaedic surgeon being concerned to preserve postural alignment & joint range of movement. On the 15th of August he is having "Triple Arthrodesis" Surgery to correct his left ankle positioning. He needs this chair for post-op recovery, once out of plaster and the rest of his life.
In the future he would like to move out and become more independent with supported living. With a powered standing wheelchair, Joe will be able to be more independent as he will be able to reach for anything he needs without getting frustrated waiting for help.
Chair/maintenance cost £15,577 and 3yr insurance is £200.

Please share to as many people as you can. Joe is out of cast and gingerly trying to weight-bear, he is more determined than ever to get back up on his feet, after all when he stands he towers over me his mum! https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/keep-joe-standing0
