Story
Kearsley Youth Brass Band was formed in February 2010. Our key aim is to develop the musical skills of young people of all abilities.
We provide FREE music tuition and FREE use of musical instruments for young people including those who may be of disadvantage. We have four voluntary musical directors all are music teachers. We have increased the numbers of people engaging in musical activities within the Kearsley area. We promote participation in our brass band in areas with high levels of deprivation and run taster sessions at performances throughout the year to encourage interest.
Fourteen of our young people gained a music grade in the last 12 months and we are aiming to increase this number by a further 10 in the forthcoming year. We open up routes into music-based learning and employment. Also we believe the use of music breaks down barriers and improve community cohesion.
We want to continue with this and evaluation of our activities reveals that participation in musical opportunities can raise confidence/aspirations and lead to further skills development. Involvement also leads to participation in other community/voluntary activities which help reduce isolation and promote cohesion and tolerance between generations and cultures.
We are a self-funded charity with previous sources of funding however we need your support to keep this vital resource continuing for years to come. If you can support financially or attending our concerts we would appreciate the support.
