Story

We have all been affected by rising fuel and food costs as we try to make our incomes go further. Many of us can make some adjustments and have a financial margin to do that. Sadly many do not. The work of Newtownabbey Methodist Mission has always focused on those who find themselves in need. All of the money raised will be used to help people who struggle to provide fuel or food for themselves or their family.

I am the Circuit Superintendent of 6 churches and I plan to walk to each church to highlight fuel and food poverty and the work of the Mission. A 10 mile walk is planned for the 23rd August. Why this date? Firstly it is my granddaughter's birthday, secondly it will mark my own personal journey as it was on that date in 2021 when I made the decision to contact my doctor and was subsequently diagnosed with bowel cancer. Following surgery and while going through chemotherapy I came up with the idea of doing this sponsored walk. It's not the endurance hike which I would love to have done, but for now, I hope I have the energy for 10 miles! The walk will begin and end in Newtownabbey Methodist Mission in Rathcoole via the Methodist churches in Whiteabbey, Church of the Good Shepherd in Monsktown, Mossley, Glengormley, Greencastle . Each of these churches are already engaged in providing for Food Banks, Fuel Vouchers or a Baby Bank.

Your donation will help alleviate fuel poverty in the Newtownabbey area. NMM rely on the faithful donations of many people and we are grateful for all support given!
