Iʼve raised £1,040 to Help Designer Travel buy sports equipment for a primary school in Madikwe

    Tlhageng Primary School, Madikwe
Funded on Thursday, 13th February 2025

Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

Are you a coffee drinker? Are you ever astounded at the price of a cup of coffee from a Starbucks, Costa, Café Nero (other brands are available!)? Do you wonder how a few coffee beans, water and milk can cost the best part of a fiver per cup?

Imagine if that fiver could be used in a school in Africa to buy a football or make a significant dent towards the purchase of a child's football boots. During a recent trip to Africa, one of the team visited Tlhageng Primary School in Madikwe, close to the Botswana border. We donated a laptop for the children to use, the first laptop the children had ever had. The joy of that moment was clear to see from the pictures taken on the day. When we asked about what other help would make a real difference in the lives of the children, they mentioned sports equipment so.......

As we head towards Christmas and try and shed a few pounds (ready to put them back on again over the festive period) we thought that maybe we could sacrifice a coffee and buy the children at Tlhageng a football or make a contribution towards much-needed football boots for the girls and boys. During November 24 we set up a Just Giving Page for anyone who wants to take part in this initiative.

We set ourselves an original goal of £500 (just 111 coffees at an average cost of £4.50) and with your help with exceeded this within 48 hours. We hope you agree that it’s worth us doubling the target - that way we can aim to buy at least 50 pairs of boots or a lot of footballs or a combination of both. We said at the start that it would be lovely to exceed this figure and we hope you will all agree. Whatever happens, we know that the school principal - Marthampula Magodeilo and the children of Tlhageng will be forever grateful for our re-directed coffee money!

“Kick the Coffee” runs unttil the end of November. Thank you all
