Story

On the 3rd September, our son Kai John was born. When Kai was born, he was unable to breathe, we were told there wasn't much hope for him and they could not make any promises to us on what would happen. Four hours after birth he was on his way to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and was straight into major surgery in which he got a tracheostomy as that was the last hope for him. We had to go through a 6 week intensive training course with the tracheostomy to be able to care for our Kai and get him home. Through out the pregnancy we were told we had the perfect baby and there was nothing to worry about so this was a horrible shock for both of us. We were then later told that Kai had Pierre Robin Sequence which basically means when Kai's jaw was forming for some reason it never grew, the small chin then caused him the extreme difficulty in breathing also a Cleft Pallete. At 5 weeks old, Kai went through another major surgery in which he had a jaw distraction in which his jaw was broke and distractors were placed in his jaw. Me and Ben had to learn how to use a device almost like a screwdriver to turn his jaw twice a day for 5 weeks to allow it to grow. Kai stayed in intensive care in Glasgow for 7 and a half weeks. In this time, lots of charities stepped in to help us to get through the scariest time of outr loves such as Ronald McDonald House which put us up for the full time Kai was in intensive care so we could be close to him. Without this charity we would not have been able to see our son each day. Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity were also there for us offering things such as beads of courage, bookbug and things for Kai. They made the worse time in our lives so much easier and we would love to be able to give back to them. So me and my Ben ((the worlds laziest pair)) are doing the Great Stirling Run Half Marathon 2019 on April the 28th. Please help us raise money for these amazing charities from our little miracle Kai John Wardrop.
