I'm raising £10000 to mentor young people from underserved communities in the UK

At Just A Guy CIC, we’re dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of young people from underserved communities. Through our empowerment programmes, we help young people build confidence, develop essential skills, and access the support they need to pursue their goals.
We believe that access to mentorship and resources is crucial for social mobility. Our programmes provide young people with guidance, advice, and hands-on experience to help them reach their potential. By working with us, they gain confidence, learn essential life skills, and prepare for careers that may otherwise seem out of reach.
We are a registered Community Interest Company, connect with us so we can add value to even more communities.
Our mission is to inspire and equip young people with the skills and mindset they need to navigate life’s challenges. We aim to cultivate:
Aspirational thinkers: able to set specific goals for their futures, with the flexibility and motivation to achieve them.
Seeking a growth mindset: believing their abilities can be developed through hard work and effort over time.
Resilient when faced with challenges: able to deal with difficulties positively and bounce back from adversity stronger.
Developing high self-efficacy: able to apply their knowledge and skills confidently.
Our current focus is the Empower Me programme, a six-week course designed to help young people between the ages of 17 and 22 build confidence, navigate the “hidden curriculum,” and become career-ready. Taking place in various locations during the evenings, the course supports those from disadvantaged backgrounds by offering essential skills and guidance.
Through Empower Me, we provide personalised support that fosters personal growth and helps participants develop the tools they need to succeed in their careers and beyond. It costs £250 for an individual to complete the course, covering all materials, sessions, and mentoring. Your support can help us reach even more young people, offering them the skills and knowledge to achieve their aspirations.
Just A Guy was originally set up to document Lawrence Tijjani’s recovery from a severe epileptic seizure that affected his physical mobility. His honest account of his experiences has resonated with a large audience, who found his strength and determination to work through his rehabilitation and now chronic symptoms, inspirational. As a result, it has now transcended into a full social enterprise that offers a whole range of services to help 14 25-year-olds navigate their way through life.
We rely on donations to keep our programmes free and accessible to those who need them most. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us fund our workshops, cover costs for event spaces, resources, and ensure that our programmes remain robust and effective. Your support will enable us to continue offering free workshops, expanding our network, and providing young people with the support they need to succeed.
In addition to our mentoring platform, we are looking to expand on the success of our online careers by hosting even bigger in-person events. We are looking to grow our network further so that young people can attend a range of workshops and talks from leading businesses, educators, and experts.
We pride ourselves in providing FREE events, but we do have costs such as event spaces, staffing, refreshments, resources, and marketing that must be covered.
A virtual event that connected students with industry leaders from organisations like Google, Barclays, and Channel 4, offering valuable insights into diverse career paths.
An initiative to equip young people with crucial digital skills to prepare them for today’s tech-driven world.
