Story
Supporting our Community
Preston Lodge High School is raising funds to help support front line health workers by making Face Protection Visors. We have now extended this to provide Scrubs. Thank you to everyone who has donated to our crowdfunding page.
We are delighted to have received a donation of £500 today from The Walk with Scott Foundation! Can you help us raise the remaining £500?
Many Thanks and well done, to our CDT staff at Preston Lodge High School, who joined up with Knox Academy and North Berwick High School to work together on this project.
All of the Teachers and staff involved, felt the need to do something practical to support frontline workers at this difficult time, and are undertaking this work on a voluntary basis. They are using laser cutters and acrylic to produce the visors, ensuring that all pieces can be kept sterile.
There have been many requests from carers and a number of front line workers over the course of last week, and many masks have already been distributed. As a result of the considerable demand, a number of the staff are also volunteering to continue this work over the holiday period.
FES, who own and manage our building, have helped greatly by facilitating safe access to the school, and all staff involved are of course, following national guidelines on social distancing and hygiene. This ensures that they and the equipment that they provide, remains safe.
Lesley Brown, East Lothian Council's chief operating officer for education, said:
"This is a brilliant initiative to support frontline workers. The CDT teachers are using their skills and experience to make a vital contribution in the action to tackle coronavirus and provide essential equipment. I'm really proud of the work our schools are doing to support their communities. Well done, and thank you once again, to everyone involved in this important work".
If anyone is in need of Face Protection Visors, please email Gavin Clark, Headteacher at Preston Lodge High School in the first instance gclark@prestonlodge.elcschool.org.uk
