Story

In March 2018 we were lucky to recieve the wonderful news that we were expecting twins. As the pregnancy continued we were to learn that one of the twins was struggling and this resulted in them having to be born at 32 weeks gestation. The twins, William and Theo were immediately taken to the Peterborough Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where they were to spend the first 7 weeks of their lives. The twins both experienced their ups and downs in the unit as they both fought to get bigger and stronger. The boys were cared for 24/7 by the wonderful team of nurses at the NICU, care which was exceptional and the support provided to us as a family was truely amazing. Both boys initially struggled to breath on their own due to the prematurety of their lungs and required oxygen support. To ensure their levels were continually monitored the neonatal respiratory monitor was vital. The monitor allowed nurses to observe the boys breathing efficiency which is linked to brain maturity. The monitor combines the compressed trends of a neonate’s beat-to-beat heart rate, respiration, and oxygenation levels and presents them in a straightforward display. We would love to be able to give back to the NICU for everything they have done for our boys and purchase a much needed respiratory monitor. I will be running the Great Eastern half marathon on the 14th October and as a non runner this is going to be a real challenge for me. I would appreciate any donations towards reaching our £5,000 target and purchase a monitor to help future babies of the NICU.
