    Story

On Sunday 15th September I will be running (waddling) the Bristol half marathon to raise funds for Suubi Medical Centre, an amazing charity that is close to my heart.

Firstly, I’d like to say that any donation you make, big or small, will make an immeasurable impact upon the lives of the people of Busu, Uganda. I have visited the medical centre myself on many occasions and seen first-hand the amazing work that they do. I am close friends with the founder of the charity and can assure you that every penny raised will be spent wisely.

At Suubi medical centre they have a vision for change, a strong will, and the drive to do to what is needed to bring hope and health to a region in Uganda that needs both desperately.

Uganda faced years of setbacks, bad leadership and political instability in the past and it’s taking a while to fully recover.

Whilst Uganda is now developing it remains one of the poorest countries in the world. A big chunk of the population lives on under £1 a day. Hunger and poverty are exacerbated by a lack of quality medical care, most severely felt by Ugandan women and children. Women in rural areas in Uganda still die during pregnancy or childbirth at an alarmingly high rate.

The vision, in the long run, is to build a 150-bed state-of-the-art hospital which will provide essential and emergency obstetrics and surgical care, with a special focus on the health needs of women and children. They want to slowly transform the community where hundreds of people receive clinical care, academic instruction and tools for income generation.

Your donations will fund life-saving medicine and clinical supplies for the people of Busu and the surrounding community. I have set a target of £200 but if that target is reached then please still donate. The more money I can raise for a good cause the better!
