So in the June of last year I was involved in a very serious car accident. I was hospitalised to just over a month. Spending three weeks in the critical care unit of the royal stoke. With a week and a half recovery on the wards. The three weeks of critical care I was placed into an induced coma. This was due to the amount of damage/impact that my head sustained. I was GCS-3 at the scene. A Glasgow coma scale of 3 is the lowest possible score and is associated with an extremely high mortality rate, with some researchers suggesting that there is no chance of survival. I also broke my collarbone, however that heeled in the three weeks I was asleep. With that being said I still can’t explain how grateful I am that no one lost their life involved in the accident. Things could have resulted a lot worse! I aren’t religious in any way but certain factors of the crash I also cannot explain. And I don’t understand how you can have so much luck. When something this life threatening happens, you have to find the positives. And I’m a big believer that everything happens for a reason, personally I was going down a bad path before the crash. And if the crash never happened I dread to think where I’d be now. Another thing which is baffling to me is how I’ve recovered. Not just physically but mentally mostly.. Before discharge they told my family that I’d really struggle to play a football match this season just gone. I’ve ended up getting minutes in 10 separate games. Finally, as it will be coming up to 12 months on the 4th of June. And I’m at a physical state to push my self. I want to give something back. So I’m raising money for the critical care unit at the royal stoke, but also a charity called headway. The work that everyone does in the critical care unit is unbelievable and deserve so much credit. The charity of headway helps brain injury survivors come to terms with their new circumstances, re-integrate into family and community life, and maximise their opportunities and choices. On the 15th of June I’m going to be climbing Scafell Pike in the Lake District, and on the 16th I’m going to be climbing mount Snowden. What ever the final amount raised is, I’ll be splitting it down the middle for critical/headway. No matter how big or small of donations, they will be massively appreciated!
