Story

This page is dedicated to the memory of my dad, John Silvester, who recently passed away after a battle with leukemia. As his illness progressed, the focus shifted to maintaining his quality of life, which became increasingly challenging as his mobility declined. Near the end, John could no longer walk or even get out of bed. The thought of being pushed around in a wheelchair held little appeal for him. However, the idea of an electric wheelchair - one that he could control himself - sparked a glimmer of hope.

The prospect of being able to independently get a drink from the kitchen or perhaps even visit the shops on his own brought back a sense of possibility and something to look forward to during those difficult days. Sadly, the high cost of electric wheelchairs makes them inaccessible for many, particularly when the duration of need is uncertain. Renting is also prohibitively expensive, adding further stress to those already facing immense challenges.

John's electric wheelchair is now out in the community, making a significant difference in someone else's life - someone who otherwise wouldn’t have access to such empowering equipment. It’s providing them with the independence and freedom that my dad cherished so deeply.

In memory of my dad, I’m committed to giving that gift of independence to others. With your support, we can provide free access to electric wheelchairs for individuals in palliative care who could benefit from them. Every penny raised will go directly toward purchasing one (or more!) wheelchairs that will be loaned out freely to those in need.

Let’s honor John’s legacy by giving others the dignity of independence and the ability to enjoy life to the fullest, even in their most challenging moments. Thank you for your generosity and support.
