Story
Rather than doing piece meal repairs to the organ which is not a good use of funds; a full and sympathetic restoration will ensure the future of the organ for many generations to come, both as an accompaniment to services and also as a teaching and recital instrument. In order to begin the fundraising decided to cycle to all the St Paul’s churches in England and play on the organ if possible. I started in Chacewater near Truro in May 2022 and then traversed the country back and forth including a visit to the Isle of Wight. I completed the ride covering over 3,800 miles, visiting 253 churches and playing on 6 organs On 4th July 2022.
Since then I have given talks to interested parties and with fellow fundraisers are planning further events to not only raise the necessary funds, but also as a start to making St Paul’s a venue for a variety of community activities. The organ will enhance this opportunity.
Interested in playing the organ or trying it out. Come along Or get in touch.

2 years agoDecember 2022. Have now raised, including grants awarded by Church Care, The John Pilling Trust and The Garfield Weston Trust, all your donations and people who have given at the Gosforth Show and a Craft Fair at Santon Bridge, over £30,000. Thanks to all. Recent fundraiser with the fabulous Rooster Band, has raised a further £600. An event is already planned for February 2023 at St Paul’s. Hope to see as many there as possible. A winter warmer with a mix of music on offer along with mulled wine.

2 years agoFinally arrived back at Irton St Paul’s 253 churches and over 3800 miles later. Only seems like yesterday that I set out on a wet day from Chacewater near Truro. I have met some amazing people and ridden through some jewels of the English countryside. Thanks for all your supportive comments and donations. If you haven’t sponsored me already and like to do so, the Just Giving site is still active.

2 years agoNow just two days and six St Paul’s to go. Have now covered over 3700 miles and met some amazing people and also seen how varied and wonderful our countryside is especially from a slow moving bike! I’ve visited 247 churches and been fortunate to play the organ in six of them. So far through your generosity I’ve raised over £3000 . THANKS.

I’d like to get the Egremont Town Band to come and play a concert in the church to fund raise for the organ. What do you think? These instruments need TLC.

Born in Birkenhead. Had the opportunity to play a three manual Willis as a teenage choirboy. A chance to play the Nicholson organ came in retirement. Hearing that a restoration was looked into I offered to take on the mantle of fundraising to preserve this marvellous instrument.
