Story
This summer I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for Otjikondo Primary School in Namibia. http://otjikondo.com/
Otjikondo is a cause close to me and my family's heart. A small primary school in north-west of Namibia for approximately 240 children between the ages of 6 and 14, Otjikondo aims to give children from differing backgrounds a well rounded education and to furnish them with the skills and talents necessary for a successful future. It is an incredibly special place which changes children's lives.
Our family has been supporting Otjikondo for many years. We have sponsored two children through the school and done lots of fund-raising, individually and as a family for projects including the playground, library, musical instruments and more. This summer we were fortunate enough to visit Otjikondo and see the incredible work they are doing changing children's lives.
My mum worked as a teacher at Otjikondo in 1995 and many of her students from King Edward's, Haberdashers' and St Pauls have gone out as Gap year volunteers in the years since then.
I will be making a seven day ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro and raising money for the school. If you could donate it would be amazing! Otjikondo primarily needs donations to help with the everyday running cost as parents can only afford a nominal contribution.
There are also more specific projects which Otjikondo would like to fund. Some examples of these are:
Maintenance of the buildings and infrastructure to ensure long term sustainability.
We have introduced the school to computers and would like to ensure every child has access to a computer on a regular basis.
Improvement of sport facilities and participation in organised inter-school events.
Basic medical care and visits to the doctor, optician or dentist.
Wish me luck with the climb and please donate if you can!
