Story

Sindhupalchowk in rural Nepal suffered greatly in the 2015 earthquakes. When homes were destroyed, families struggled to securely store their grain, and it was difficult to eat diverse diets.

Ram Puri and friends have set up food banks in rented buildings to help with this. Families register their contribution of food, and when the price is favourable and stock sufficient, the bank sells the food to diversify stock, buy seeds, or increase the stock if needs be. Decisions are made in a participatory way, and families contribute only what is possible for them. 320 families have contributed so far, and the aim is to expand and become self-sufficient by building a food bank that can be resilient to natural disasters. We want to help Ram to achieve this goal and so this is the fundraising focus of the Sindhupalchowk International Trail Race.
