Story

I‘ve been given an amazing opportunity where I can help change people’s lives in Uganda and I’d really appreciate your help.

My Mum and I would work with Teams4u to educate and support schools in the Kumi district of Uganda. As well as engaging in fun activites with the children, we will also be providing education on Reproductive Health, Menstrual Health, hygiene and sanitation to the older students: enabling young people to grow without shame or fear. We need your help to ensure that we can truly make the most of this trip and put a smile on the faces of as many children as possible!

Everyday we will go to a different school, teaching students ages 5-16 so we can make a change to their futures. For the younger children, we will be playing football with them; singing and dancing; playing games; and spreading as much happiness as we possibly can. Every child is provided with football kits from Teams4u which they absolutely love.

Our team at Teams4u are also going to be educating these children on the importance of washing their hands. We want to deliver demonstrations in a fun and exciting way so that they feel encouraged to wash their hands and keep themselves and others safe from nasty viruses.

A huge part of our work will be with the young girls in Ugandan schools, educating them on menstruation. As a teenage girl, I understand what it’s like to experience periods and the shame that surrounds the topic. But I couldn’t begin to imagine what it would be like enduring periods without any idea what is happening to your body, why your body is bleeding and where the pain is coming from. Not only do these young girls have no understanding of what they’re experiencing, but they are also missing weeks of learning at school — education that is crucial for their future.

Teams4u have come up with a washable sanitary pad that can enable girls to feel more empowered and get back to classrooms so they can thrive in their learning. Previously, there has been a 45% increase in school attendance thanks to items provided by the charity. These are phenomenal results and I want to be able to increase that even more by going out and playing my part.

Thank you so much for your support - we appreciate every penny. I can‘t wait to keep you all updated with what we will be doing in Uganda.
