Story

Will you help me compete at the World Transplant Games 2025 in Dresden?

I'm Jo, nearly 40, data engineer, mum of 2, ukulele shredder and pretty nifty on my bike. In 2012, I received a life-saving stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor which took me from terminal cancer to all these things above. It was, and continues to be, a spectacular outcome!

Whilst I was having my transplant, the 2012 Olympics was on, and I became obsessed with track cycling. I'd ride my little pedal machine in the isolation room, and swore that if I survived my transplant, I was going to learn to ride on the velodrome. It took a few years to be recovered enough, but I did it!

Since then, I've taken part in many endurance cycling and running events to raise money for charity: 24 hour races on velodromes, 100 mile sportives, virtual LEJOG and the London marathon to name but a few. In total, I've raised over £12,000 for the charities that have got me to where I am today. This is super!

I took a break from fundraising whilst we created our family (dish babies!), but carried on advocating for the stem cell register with Anthony Nolan - you may have seen me meeting my donor Stefan on the telly, which caused a humongous spike in donor sign ups, one of my proudest achievements!

In 2023, no longer with a newborn attached to me, I competed in my first British Transplant Games, winning the women's road race and getting gold in both events. I did the same in 2024. This has got me selected to represent TeamGB at the World Transplant Games 2025. I am STOKED, it's such a big opportunity to get out there and increase awareness of organ and stem cell donation...and I need your help to make it happen.

The games are self-funded, and although I will cover as much of this myself, I'm going to need a boost. My target will help cover the cost of competing, and hopefully coaching and kit. I am going to work HARD for your support, not only on the bike but with the many fundraising ideas I have to generate some cash. Watch this space!

Will you join me on this journey?
