Story
In loving memory of Ryan Our younger brother and much loved uncle, we (Gary, Jo and Jacob) have chosen to fundraise in honour of what would have been his 30th Birthday on 17th February 2023 ! We have decided to challenge ourselves to a Sky dive on 2nd April with Northwest Sky Diving centre in The Lakes where we will freefall from up to 15,000 ft, reaching speeds of about 120 mph!
We are raising money for the Haematology Ward at Salford Royal, which is a fantastic unit and a place where Ryan spent a considerable amount of time during his fight against AML from his diagnosis in 2016 aged 23 through to his passing in February 2018 just 4 days before what would have been his 25th Birthday. We as a family have always been so appreciative of the care Ryan was given from all of the staff and think we could agree that as a young lad spending months on end with the team as an inpatient he kept them all on their toes 😉 The nurses looking after him developed a special bond, he trusted them and we feel that they treated him as one of their own, we knew he was in safe hands! They allowed visits from his young infant daughter (treatment permitting) and made sure her visits were comfortable. When he became really poorly prior to Christmas 2017 they went as far as arranging his wedding service all in one day! Another time while he was showering, the nurses quickly arrived with boxes of Christmas decorations, and we all raced to dress his room before he finished his shower! Just something else they wanted to do to make what was an awful time that little bit better.
Our aim is to raise enough funds to go to the Haematology ward at Salford Royal and more importantly directly to current and future patients to help make their stay on the unit as comfortable as possible. Ryan had his own plasma TV, access to DVDs, laptops/IPADs, his own fridge, Dyson fans etc. which had been donated previously by other patients/family, and all of this made his stay through grueling treatment regimes for months on end that little bit more tolerable.
As a family we would like to be able to give something back. Please help us raise as much as possible, we appreciate your support.
