Story

The events in Ukraine over the last month have shocked, horrified, and filled most of us with disbelief. In 21st century Europe, developed nations are at war, destroying the lives of millions of innocent civilians.
It was Phil (our drummer) who first expressed a desire to “Do something” to help the refugees of Ukraine. Jack and I agreed that we could not sit Idle. But what could WE do?
We had all seen the great work and titanic effort of March for Ukraine # Tamworth on social media and felt that by working with them, any funds we could raise would go directly to where it is needed the most. We are thrilled they have agreed to work with us!
I had an idea of performing a “marathon” of shows in one day, in different towns, to reach a wider audience and offer something different to a standard set. Jack and Phil were instantly on-board with the idea, as was our close friend and fourth band member “Captain” James Cooke. Our plan is to play five shows in a single afternoon (Sat 2nd April), back-to-back, allowing for travel and set-up time. Coleshill, Atherstone, Tamworth and closing the night in our “hometown” of Polesworth.
Along with the shows, we have recorded a charity single that is due for release Saturday April 2nd and will be available for download and streaming on all major platforms. A cover of ‘Love and Mercy’ by Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. All proceeds from this single will be donated to March for Ukraine # Tamworth as well.
Jack “This is a beautifully written song which perfectly sums up our feelings towards the current situation in Ukraine, in fact any war or discrimination in the world. We hope that our track moves people who listen to reflect and unite in support.”
On the day of the “Jive in Five” we will have collection pots as well as a scannable QR code for people who wish to donate via Just Giving. 100% of donations will go to the charity to cover the costs of moving items to Ukraine.
This event would not be possible without the generosity and support of local business’ and the community. We would like to thank The Red Lion Coleshill, The Angel Ale House Atherstone, No’18 coffee house Tamworth, Tamworth Brewing Co. and the Red Lion Polesworth for hosting our performances and advertising the event.
Special thanks also to Ifancyone.com, HiB Ltd, A&A Premier stores, Christophers Jewellers, and of course the Herald for the help, support, and getting behind the cause.
Our Schedule of shows for Sat April 2nd is: -
- 1 pm The Red Lion Coleshill
- 2.15 pm The Angel Ale House Atherstone
- 3.45 pm No’18 Coffee House Tamworth
- 5.15 pm Tamworth Brewing Co.
- 7.00 pm The Red Lion Polesworth
We hope that those who attend any of our shows have a great time listening to some timeless classics from the 50’s & 60’s. Any donations, no matter how small will be gratefully received.
We (J&THJ) are privileged to enjoy playing shows all over Britain, in safety and liberty. We want to help those who have had such freedoms stolen in Ukraine. Along with March for Ukraine # Tamworth, we wish to demonstrate that the people of Tamworth and North Warwickshire stand with the people of Ukraine.
