    Story

    Hi all,

Some of you will be aware that I work part-time at Olde Bexley Cattery, where I’m part of a small team of like-minded ladies who all love cats.

Approximately 5 years ago, Jane West (one of the team) decided to rescue/adopt two cats from the ‘Saving Macedonian Strays’ Facebook page.

If you review the ‘Saving Macedonian Strays’ Facebook page (please click on the link below) you will see the page is focused on dogs, which are a very worthy cause (as all animals in distress need to be rescued) but as you will see cats are not their focus and don’t receive the same re-homing and/or marketing attention as the dogs.

Dogs occupy most of the rescue centre and the rescued cats seem to be contained within one room.

When looking (5 years ago), Jane was torn by which cats she should rescue as she could only afford to bring two cats back to the UK.

Having chosen two cats they then needed to make the long overland journey to the UK, where Jane’s feelings of happiness for rescuing the two cats were tinged with sadness because she had to leave several beautiful cats behind.

Jane consoled herself by thinking it wouldn’t be long before these cats found a new loving home too.

Jane’s rescued cats arrived safely in the UK and five happy years later Jane’s happiness was turned into a gut-wrenching horror when she looked on the ‘Saving Macedonian Strays’ Facebook page, only to see some of the stray cats she looked at 5 years ago were still there.

One of the cats on Jane’s shortlist was a cat called Isabella (see cover picture) she was still in the same small room with several other strays Jane looked at 5 years earlier.

The room is surrounded by stressed barking dogs, who are also waiting to be rescued and find new forever homes in another country.

The rescue centre is doing the very best it can to save cats/dogs, but as their focus seems to be on dogs, cats like Isabella get left behind.

We hope to raise enough money to get Isabella and the last 3 cats out (depending on the amount we can raise and how many others are able to offer a home for life). Isabella has a home to come to in the UK , but we need to ensure we have several potential homes for these cats to go to in case any offers to home the cats fall through.

These cats are tame, neutered, microchipped, have up-to-date vaccinations, and will travel to the UK overland in a van. They all deserve a chance of a happy life outside of the cramped conditions of the rescue centre.

If you could please donate to this very worthy cause (any amount would be greatly appreciated) and/or share the ‘Justgiving’ link with other like-minded animal lovers, the Olde Bexley Cattery Ladies would be eternally grateful.

Thank you in advance for any help and assistance you can offer.

    Best wishes.

Thank you to everyone that has so generously donated. We really appreciate each and everyone, we are at 70% of our target! We are hopeful that we will raise enough to get the last 3 cats to the uk. Will keep you updated on the progress and if anyone would like to offer a home to the remaining two please get in contact. Isabella (black & white) has a firm home offer from a lovely current client of the Cattery!
