Story
My mum passed away unexpectedly on Friday 21.10.22, with unfortunately no funeral provisions in place. I have deliberated over this, but ultimately we don't have many other options. My mum devoted her life to helping others, despite living with mental illness. Sne helped out at playgroups, helped children read in school, set up a community grouo who organised playschemes and youth clubs. My Summer Holidays growing up often involved me helping out on playschemes for disabled children along with her. She was so concerned about the pollution affecting Dormanstown, she helped to set up a Liaison Panel consisting of the businesses based on the Wilton Site, the Steelworks, local councillors, and local residents. As she grew older and moved into Park Court, she became a bingo-caller at the Pensioner Centre, she was also a key-holder for the Centre, and helped to fundraise for them, helping to organise trips for them. Since Mum’s massive brain haemorrhage, where she had to learn to walk and talk again, her volunteering lessened as she was too weak. Lockdown hit her hard, as she was vulnerable due to her COPD, and she also had poor mobility.
So, if youve managed to get this far, and if Mum ever helped you, please consider donating to help with her final journey. Please no negative comments, we know she should have had insurance etc, but sadly she didnt, so this really is a last resort, and this is us swallowing our pride to ask for help to remember one of Dormanstown’s community stalwarts.
