HI all, I'm Peter Richards - This summer (July 1st) I am cycling from the Northern most point of Japan to the very South! and I'm gonna climb every mountain I come across on the way! I'm doing this to raise money for 2 causes. Alder Hey Children's Hospital and Charity : Water (A charity that funds water projects in 3rd world countries) The money we raise will be split in half for each cause.
Esme's Story -
The Drive and motivation to do a challenge like this comes firstly from my little sister who passed away about a year ago. Esme was the strongest person I have ever been blessed to know, at the age of 9 she passed away due to a pneumonia. RETT Syndrome was her diagnosis but she had many other complications to her health, the worst of which were life threatening epileptic fits and respiratory arrests. Alder Hey specifically the neurological ward did a lot of work to help my sister, Her doctor (Dr.Spinty) and his team, prolonged her life and made all the right decisions to make her passing as peaceful as possible. She had a complicated life but she was fighter down to her core and the strongest person I've ever known. She is the reason why I have the drive to do this.
My Nepal Experiance
In 2016 I spent 8 weeks in the fascinating country of Nepal. I spent four weeks volunteering, I also spent 10 days cycling into the most rural parts of Nepal. Seeing how some people live was an incredibly shocking experience. I met families that had no power or running water. No taps, No light switches. What we think of as a simple part to life (instant light and clean water) many people work hours just to get, and Nepal isn't even the worst of it many African countries have far tougher living conditions and almost all revolve around access to clean water. thats why half the money we raise will be going to Charity : Water (charitywater.org)
