Story

A Great opportunity to become part of the London Marathon

Jan's Dog Rescue, as you may know, rescues and rehomes dogs and is run by Janette Heritage who works as a taxi driver by night to pay for the considerable costs involved. She doesn't receive any government funding and relies solely on donations, her own income and unpaid volunteers.

She is based in a semi detached house in Radford, Coventry, with kennels in the garden and she now urgently needs funds to pay for the paving and renovation of the kennels so that she can continue with her wonderful work.

One of her supporters, Jeff, who is 525 in dog years, is taking part in the London Marathon on the 28th April this year and is raising funds for Jan. Jeff originally intended to take a dog along for a London Marathon first of a 26 mile dog walk. Unfortunately this is not allowed and as an alternative offered instead to have a stuffed toy dog on wheels in place of the real thing but whilst this was allowed he reluctantly decided that it would be just silly.

Jeff has promised to christen a lamp post along the route for each £10 donated. We are currently in negotiation for the christening of the lamp posts to be included in the BBC highlights programme on the day but in truth whilst they haven’t actually refused, we feel it probably will not happen.

So we are asking if you could see your way clear to make a donation to help this wonderful work to continue. The donation can be made via this just giving page and every penny you donate will of course be used by Jan to renovate the kennels and surrounding area so that her incredible work to rescue and rehome vulnerable and frightened dogs can continue.

Closer to the date we will let you know how to follow Jeff along the route on the day as he progresses from lamp post to lamp post along the 26 miles...and he has promised to dedicate one of his lamp post stops, probably the one outside Buckingham Palace, to one lucky donator.
