    Story

The Violette Szabo Museum is the brain child of Rosemary Rigby MBE who was Violette's aunt.

The Museum is in desperate needs of funds to help restore a small unit in the grounds, which is also, the very house where Violette herself stayed.

Many years of collecting artefacts from people who knew Violette or served with her during the war, are on display at the Museum.

This Museum holds the story and life of Violette Szabo, one of Churchill's Secret Army (SOE), along with life stories of the many resistance workers who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Here, you can trace her story from humble beginnings, to her death at Ravensbruck concentration Camp at just 23 years of age.

Violette Szabo was the second woman to be awarded the George Cross for bravery. Her award came posthumously on 17th December 1946 and was collected by her daughter Tania. Violette is also listed on the Valencay SOE memorial as one of the SOE agents who died liberating France. Violette and her husband, Etienne (who died without seeing his child), are the most decorated married couple of World War II.

The life that I have is all that I have
And the life that I have is yours
The Love that I have of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours
A Sleep I shall have a rest I shall have
And death will be but a pause
For the years I shall have in the long green grass
Are yours and yours and yours
