CROHN’S (Nicola Wemyss) – 40 MILE CLYDE STRIDE ULTRA MARATHON -14th JULY 2018

“As many of you know, I have raised over £ 10000 for Crohn’s and Colitis UK, since my beautiful daughter Nicola was diagnosed with aggressive Crohn’s disease in 2013, at the age of 23. I am indebted to those of you who have supported me in this.
Nicola has twice had surgery and is on very strong medication and regular hospital treatment to try keep her Crohn’s under control. Despite all this, she is extremely positive and tries very hard to manage life as a working mum. I suppose it is often only family and close friends who see what a struggle this can be at times. She was recently gifted some trial acupuncture sessions, which amazingly are making a difference in a relatively short time. I can’t begin to describe how good it feels to see her have a little more energy and enjoyment of life. However, this treatment is expensive and sadly not available on the NHS.
I have therefore decided at the grand gold age of 51 to attempt the 40 mile Clyde Stride ultra-marathon on 14th July 2018 to raise funds towards Nicola’s treatment in the hope that she may experience continued improvement and maybe one day will be able to manage without the strong drugs (and side effects) she is currently taking. I will be thinking of my girl every step of the way.”
