Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

James and Robyn, both firefighters, are taking on a challenge to run from Richmond Fire Station to every fire station across North Yorkshire over 14 consecutive days. They will run an average of 30 miles a day calling in at fire stations along the way until they reach the end point for that day. They will stay at that station overnight and then set off the next morning for the next 30 (ish) miles. It has been quite a while since James did any real running and whilst training he has had a few setbacks with injuries, but now back on track now and training is becoming his main focus………tapping into the Tiger spirit.

Robyn, who works for Tyne and Wear fire service, has also had a few set backs, and with the football season in full swing (apparently she's quite good) has now committed to completing this challenge with James.

This has been an idea of James's for a long time - dating back to his younger, fitter days........but couldn't find anyone mad enough to do it with him, then Robyn suggested it and the rest is history, here we are. While it will bring its challenges, they said, we are determined to overcome them. We plan to complete this event, whether running, walking, or even crawling (though we'd prefer to avoid that!) We both really believe in these causes and have seen the difference they make. We both thrive on personal challenges and are training hard to give ourselves the best possible chance.

What we need now is your support through sponsorship to make a real difference for these organisations and to make the aches and the ice baths worth it.

A bit about why these organisations.

In our careers in the fire service we have firsthand experience of the invaluable support offered by the Fire Fighters Charity. They played a crucial role in enabling James's good friend, diagnosed with terminal cancer, to create cherished memories with his family during a difficult time. Other friends of ours have accessed support for physical rehabilitation and mental health support. www.firefighterscharity.org.uk

Before joining the fire service, James served in the infantry in the Princess of Wales' Royal Regiment (Tigers). Whilst his own army experience was positive, he knows that for many veterans there are very real struggles which become really difficult when leaving the forces. The tragic loss of two friends from the regiment to suicide within the past 18 months highlights the urgent need for further support. VTRN reset, a new organisation led by veterans and mental health professionals, aims to provide essential practical assistance and guidance to veterans transitioning to civilian life, promoting a successful and fulfilling post-service life. This organisation is currently fundraising to run a pilot of their residential service in order to achieve charity status after two years of research and planning. https://www.vtrnreset.com

We are motivated to support both the Firefighters Charity and VTRN RESET and believe this challenge will be a personally rewarding experience, despite the difficulties it entails.
