    Story

Many of you will have faced the challenge of home-schooling your children during the COVID-19 pandemic, but with the luxury of technology, you got through it. Now imagine if your child had no access to technology, let alone the most basic of resources such as paper or even a chalkboard...

This was and continues to be the reality for lots of children in third countries, including the students I had the pleasure of meeting at S.M.Z Jambiani Primary and Secondary School. During the pandemic, both the primary and secondary school were closed, and education came to a complete standstill for months; there were no resources to enable home-schooling. Now months later Jambiani School has reopened, and students are attending school 6 days a week to catch up and prepare for their exams in November.

During my visit I met with the secondary school's headmaster, Mr Yousef Sabour, he explained that exam season is a compromising period despite COVID as they do not have a building to facilitate the number of students (441) sitting exams. They resort to hiring out the adjoining primary school so students can sit their exams. This has a detrimental impact as the secondary school has to spend funds, they do not have to do this and the primary school students suffer as schooling is suspended throughout November.

In January 2020 the school received funding to build a conference hall that would allow secondary students to sit their exams without having to close the primary school. Unfortunately, they ran out of funds before the building was completed.

I aim to raise enough money to fund the completion of this building before exams commence in November. By donating you will be making a huge difference to hundreds of students and their futures.
