Story

Whilst playing for our cricket team this weekend, Jack was attempting to field a regulation ball as 100's of us have done 1,000's of times.

As he slid to stop the ball hitting the boundary, he was impaled by an 8-10 inch rogue steel peg in the outfield. The peg caused a 6-8 inch deep laceration on the outside of his calf and went through his whole calf completely, even cutting in to his hamstring.

Jack was treated at the ground and was rushed by ambulance to QE Birmingham hospital where he under went emergency surgery to have the peg removed and to repair his tendon down the front of his leg that moves the ankle which was 90% ripped. He even needed stitches in his hamstring wound, showing the force of the impact Jack was in surgery for 4 hours.

From when he arrived in hospital, he has not been able to see his partner Becki or parents due to COVID and so has been all alone until he thankfully returned home this evening.

Jack will now have to have intensive rehabilitation, will have to wait 4 weeks before he can even think about putting any weight on his foot and will be off work for a minimum of 12 weeks at best. He won't be able to play the sport he loves until well into 2022.

Jack is a self-employed bricklayer and a single Dad who was due to go on holiday today with his daughter and partner, but that has had to be cancelled too. As most of us do, Jack has a mortgage and bills to pay and there have been many people in the local cricketing family who have suggested we start this Just Giving page to take away some worry from Jack.

Those who know Jack will know how laid back an individual he is. A talented opening batsman/cricketer, a great Dad and hard worker. An all round great guy.

If people can find it in their hearts and pockets to take some of the worry away from Jack in the short term, I know he would appreicate it. There is no pressure from anybody or any team to donate, but the requests to start this page have been gathering since news of his injury went through Shropshire Cricket and wider from Saturday night.

Thank you all.
