The Isle of Wight Learning Zone was founded in 1999 by home educating families. The organisation grew & was registered as a charity to better enable us to access & provide support, activities & resources for all our members. 

We are a member-led organisation creating opportunities for socialising, learning & mutual support as we seek to educate our children from home & in the local community, rather than at school. Members range in age from preschool to adult & events & learning opportunities are provided by individual members as well as external sources.

As a charity we are able to apply for grant funding for some events & large project materials. As a result we have been able to arrange bigger events such as field trips to the mainland & Europe, camping/hiking/cycling excursions, plays & theatre productions, & become involved with nationwide science events. 

However, the week by week running of smaller activities & courses is paid for by the members & those who organise events. This means that offering weekly events is often limited by financial constraints. 

This fundraising page is to help raise monies for weekly activities for the Learning Zone. It will help cover the costs of materials such as: clay, paints & other art supplies; science equipment such as chemicals needed for creating experiments; maths equipment like string or beads for measuring & counting; engineering items like nuts & bolts, wood, nails, glue; printing & photocopying of resources. It will also allow us to subside courses run by outside teachers.

This year so far we have enjoyed subsidised classes in first aid for both the children & adults, ukelele lessons & Street Dance weekly classes. We will also be having a weaving workshop, guided fossil walk and Unravelled Learning History workshops.
