Story
My son plays in the Ise Lodge Falcons U11's football team in Northamptonshire. We are part of a local wider league which has a large number of kids teams in it.
Over the last 18 months, 3 children in the league have died on the pitch due to heart issues. This is a known condition called "SADS" Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome and is more common in young adults.
The last child sadly passed away a couple of weeks ago playing in a match at Thrapston. He was only 15 yrs old.
Our hearts go out to the families and friends of all of those children at this very sad and challenging time and we cant imagine how difficult this is for the families to have to accept this tragedy.
What has been highlighted from these tragic events, is that if there was an Defibrilltor (AED) pitch side at these games, then the outcome for those children could have been so very different.
We are determined to stop anything like this happening again and having an AED pitch side at matches going forward, could really help influence the outcome for any child who suffers with "SADS" during a match.
The FA will not give funding or supply them, so it is down to each individual team to supply one. The issue is they cost around £1000 each.
My first wish is to get one for my son's team as quickly as we can, so we have one at training and all future games. Ultimately, if every team had one it could drastically reduce the number of fatalities in our young people across the country.
Foundations are being set up to raise awareness for this and in most cases are created by the families of the children who have been taken by this largely avoidable tragedy.
