Story

I am writing to you to request help in my fundraising towards the next World Scout Jamboree, 2019, in West Virginia. My name is Isabel Humphery, a pupil at Devonport High School for Girls and also a member of the 19th Plymouth Scout Troop. I have been given the amazing opportunity to represent Devon at the 24th World Scout Jamboree. After going through a gruelling selection camp of hundreds hopeful scouts, I alongside 63 other lucky young people, were selected to represent Devon at this international event. The selectors were looking for people with a range of social, leadership, creative and compassionate skills across a 2-day camp, as well as completing a number of practical challenges.

The World Scout Jamboree is held every 4 years for Scouts from all over the world joining to learn important life skills under the five core principles of Scouting: Adventure, Friendship, Leadership, Service and Sustainability. The main aim is to exchange experiences and cultures with Scouts from all over the world, including from poorer countries who would not normally get the opportunity to attend a multi-national event.

The next Jamboree is taking place in the summer of 2019 at Summit Bechtel Reserve, West Virginia. In order for me to participate I have to fundraise over £4000. This may seem like a lot for one person’s trip but my fund also goes towards others who are less fortunate and do not live in such a generous and supportive country as ours. As a Cub and now Scout of 4 years I have already made a significant contribution towards this through various fundraising events including supporting Summer and Christmas Fayres at Emmanuel Church and St Edwards Church, playing my flute to create a pleasant atmosphere at fundraising events and through various cake and craft sales.

I would be extremely grateful if you could support me in my cause via a financial donation (of any amount you feel able to support me with).

Yours faithfully,

Isabel Humphery ~ 19th Plymouth Scout Troop.
