I'm raising £5000 to help stop the Isle of Man Law Society unlawful ban on no-win-no-fee agreements

Organised by Graeme Jones

Story

The Isle of Man Law Society bans all lawyers from offering you a no-win-no-fee agreement in Employment Tribunal cases or High Court cases where you only pay your lawyer if you win.

I was a whistleblower but in the end I had to fight my case on my own because I couldn’t afford a lawyer.

It seems entirely unfair that the Isle of Man Law Society can choose to stop every lawyer from offering no-win-no-fee agreements.

I then uncovered evidence that the ban was unlawful and several lawyers were willing to fight the case for free and they have filed a separate High Court case to overturn the ban.

Many others will face the same situation, forced to fight their own case without knowing the court rules, the law or what evidence is the most important and why, often against a legal team if the case is against the Isle of Man Government or a large company.

The Isle of Man Law Society is fighting to stop my case so I have asked the Court to protect me from having to pay their legal costs on the grounds that there is an access to justice crisis and that I am acting in the public interest.

There is a Court hearing on 5th November 2026 where the High Court will decide whether or not I should be protected from paying all or some of the Isle of Man Law Society’s legal costs if I do not win the case.

I am asking for some funding to help me win the case by protecting me from a potential costs order if I lose the case.

My lawyers are fighting the case for free so I do not need to allocate any funding to pay them.

The funding would allow me to ask the High Court at the hearing on 5th November 2026 to set a limit on how much of the Isle of Man Law Society’s costs I would have to pay if I lose the case to overturn the ban.

If I win the case the funding would help me stop other issues such as the court fee remission issue in the access to justice crisis.

Thank you.
