I've raised £3000 to support In The Mix - a community project where Asylum Seekers voluntarily cook & serve meals to help around 100 local people each week.

The rising cost of living, loneliness and isolation are all making life increasingly challenging for many people in our community. To offer support, In The Mix was born and for over a year, local Asylum Seekers have been cooking and serving fantastic meals every Wednesday at the Granville Community Kitchen. What started as a community meal has now turned into a social, supportive and collaborative weekly event where friendships are formed, skills shared and support offered (as well as the delicious food!).
It costs us only £2 per head to create and serve a two course meal. Our weekly numbers are rising sharply, doubling from an average of 40 to 80 guests, which further highlights the need for projects such as this in our community. However, the sad reality is that in June we will run out of funds and we need you to help keep this important initiative alive.
In The Mix was created by local resident Matilda Velevitch who runs Useful Productions, a Community Interest Project and volunteers in collaboration with Care4Calais and other charities.
“The Asylum Seekers I work with have much to offer and are so keen to give back to the community by volunteering. In The Mix has provided a possibility not only for them to do that but also for people, whatever their story, to come together around a table each week as a neighbourhood. It's not just about the food, it's about mental health, building confidence, encouraging others, and reminding ourselves we are a community.”
