Story

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the heart breaking news that our precious and brave Charlie passed away peacefully at home on Thursday 5th June, surrounded by his loving family and everything he adored.

Charlie was just seven years old, but in his short life, he showed more courage and strength than most of us could ever imagine. Diagnosed with kidney cancer in June 2023, just 22 days after his 5th birthday, Charlie faced every challenge with bravery and a sparkle in his eye and a cheeky smile.

Over the past two years, Charlie endured intense chemotherapy, major surgery, countless hospital stays, and so many pokes and prods—all without ever losing his spirit. He rang the end-of-treatment bell in February 2024, and for a short while, there was hope. He started returning to school and seeing all his friends and teachers who he loved and missed dearly, got a puppy named Zane, and even raised money for other children with cancer.

But in August 2024, Charlie’s world was turned upside down again when a new tumour was found compressing his lungs and heart. Despite every effort, including intensive chemotherapy and a glimmer of hope from Great Ormond Street, Charlie’s little body could fight no more.

As you all know, Charlie’s big brother James has been his rock—his best friend and biggest cheerleader. Their bond was unbreakable, and James stood by Charlie every step of the way, never complaining.

Now, as Charlie sleeps peacefully, we want to honour his memory and support his family Julie, Mark, and James through this unimaginable time. Funds raised will go towards keeping our wonderful Charlie's memory alive by purchasing things such as memory benches in the places he loved for his friends to have a place to go and reflect, help ease the financial burden of time off work, and allow the family space to grieve without added stress.

We also want to continue Charlie’s legacy of kindness and courage. If you’re able, please consider donating in Charlie’s memory. Every penny will help this beautiful family who has already endured so much.

And if you can’t give, please consider donating blood, platelets, or registering as a bone marrow donor. Charlie’s journey reminds us how vital these gifts are.

Thank you for being part of Charlie’s story. Charlie taught us all how to be brave. Even on the hardest days, he found a way to smile. He was truly loved by all.

Sleep tight our wonderful, handsome, kind and brave cheeky Charlie. You’ll always be our hero.
