Story
CALDER VALLEY RADIO
The online community radio station was launched in July 2020 and is based at Mytholmroyd Community Centre, West Yorkshire. Our team of around a dozen local volunteers, with a passion for radio and a friendly voice, broadcast a wide range of music shows as well as interviews with local bands, charities and artists. Local events are also well-promoted.
Trevor (Simmo) hosted a weekly radio show 'Calder Valley Connections' on Calder Valley Radio which played a variety of music genres with a different theme connecting them each week. With his 'Tricky Trio' challenge to finish off the shows, it attracted listeners from all around the world, often receiving a Simmo Shoutout. He loved bringing the weekly hour of entertainment to everyone and spending the week brainstorming ideas for the next installment of the show!
As a registered Community Interest Company, Calder Valley Radio is a not-for-profit organisation. Any revenue goes straight back into the upkeep and daily running costs of the radio station, such as licences, as well as the maintenance of equipment. Costing around £3,000 per year in running costs, the station relies on grants, donations and income from organised events, meaning any donations are very gratefully received and are essential to cover costs and keep the station on air to support the local community.
2023 was a busy year. Our ‘One Night with Elvis’ show, spearheaded by Trevor with Colin Paul performing, was sold-out and our ‘Community Heroes’ weekend in October was a real success with around twenty guests from local organisations visiting our studio for interviews. We have also supported four local charities to promote their services on-air with custom-made adverts.
You can listen to CVR (worldwide) on your laptop, computer, phone or smart speaker: www.caldervalleyradio.co.uk
Calder Valley Radio is always looking for new volunteers and welcome people from all sides of the local community.
