Investing in Girls Education in Africa (IGEA) is a registered not for profit organisation with a mission to advocate for investment into the quality education of girls in rural parts of Africa. We have started our operation in Ghana with our first project, ‘Menstruate and Educate’ in 2019. Within the first 3 months, we found girls in our project attendance at school increased by at least an extra 3 days per month, additionally reporting a higher level of confidence in the classroom.

We want to minimise any hindrance that may occur in the process of young girls receiving a quality education, and through our research, we found that 80% of girls from the ages of 11-16 in Northern Ghana period poverty is a leading cause for absenteeism. By distributing reusable, biodegradable sanitary napkins, we want to equip young girls to feel confident during menstruation. Our main goal is to reduce school absenteeism and increase well being in these communities.

To tackle this, IGEA is working to install period dispensers in 50 schools across Northern Ghana, ensuring that over 3,000 girls will have reliable access to menstrual products whenever they need them. This initiative will help reduce period poverty, enabling girls to attend school without fear of missing classes due to menstruation.

Each £10 donation will contribute to install period dispensers in a schools, providing girls with the resources they need to stay in school, maintain their health and well-being, and feel confident in their education.
