Story
Where to start is really hard for me...
Ghana's local dogs in their natural habitat are left to fend for themselves. There are dangers everywhere from children throwing rocks at them, fly bites, these magnificent creatures are chased away and hit by adults, to being run over by cars or killed for food.
For this reason some of these dogs remain in fight or flight mode. Psychologically damage and they have a short span of life, as they die before they live. All my life I have felt their pain but financially crippled to help on a large scale. These dogs never experience a loving home. New trend in Ghana is the preference of foreign dogs to these ones.
I cannot comprehend how this is possible as all dogs are dogs. There is a dog market in Ghana where these dogs are sold in broad day light in the blazing sun with no shelter or water for them to drink. At the end of the market day the dogs/puppies left behind are kept in small cages overnight without food or water. I can't sit and do nothing anymore.
I am disgusted that I want to do something to help these man's best friends. Moreover, the local community needs to be educated on the benefits of treating these magnificent creatures humanely. Helping these dogs will also help to control rabies which is a real risk to children.
The pictured dog is with her own litter the brown puppies and she's also feeding a second litter from another dog not pictured. The reason is the mother of the black puppies is so malnourished that she wasn't able to feed her own litter. The mother is clearly flea infested evident from her coat.
Together we must do our best to help. Thank you.
Dogs are the kindest animals. They love you back. We should love them too.
