UCU University of Nottingham UCU solidarity fund raiser
On 4th and 5th June I am solo walking 50km to raise funds for the University of Nottingham branch of University and College Union (UCU) hardship fund.
UCU members at Nottingham who are participating in the union's national marking and assessment boycott are currently experiencing 50% pay deductions for participating in the action (https://www.ucu.org.uk/MAB2023). Members at Nottingham are receiving no strike pay from the union.
UoN UCU's hardship fund is intended to support those in real need. It is not awarded automatically to all UoN UCU members, but only to those participating in the boycott who face real financial hardship (for example, due to low pay and/or precarious contracts). Many members will face severe financial problems without support.
On Day 1 I will walk the 'Kinder Round' (the circumference of the Kinder Scout plateau) and on Day 2 I will walk the 'Great Ridge' (from Rushup Edge to Lose Hill and back via the Vale of Edale). The two walks are approximately 50km.

1 year agoA big thank you to everyone who supported this. I managed 54km and 1775m of ascent over two glorious days in Derbyshire. This page has generated nearly £1700 for the UoN UCU Hardship Fund. The dispute is reaching a critical point but we know that there are many members who are finding the financial sacrifice really tough, especially after all our strike action. This money will help members on low pay/precarious contracts to support the boycott, put pressure on our employers and hopefully get a breakthrough in our campaign. Thank you again, H.

1 year agoSince I posted this page the national union has agreed that branches receiving 50% pay deductions can access the national fighting fund. This is very welcome news, but it will not compensate for all the loss of pay members will experience. There is still a need for our local fund to be be able to support those who will experience these pay deductions, especially those on low pay and precarious contracts. If you are able to give, it will make a real difference. Thank you.
