    Story

HMHB is a mentor led health project. Many people in the local community are going through issues around their health, including isolation, depression, anxiety, unemployment, financial problems, and more.

HMHB offers a fun and interactive intervention, bringing people together to improve their focus, energy levels, mood, and confidence. HMHB demonstrates the strength that can come from group walks, exercise, and social events. Their course, working with various organisations including the Job Centre, Community Centres, Substance recovery projects, homelessness projects, and older people, focuses on Mindset, Nutrition, Exercise and Health, has enjoyed incredible feedback.

This is feedback from a Disability Employment Officer at Finsbury Park Job Centre: "I believe that the Healthy Minds Health Bodies programme fills a gap in the current services available for unemployed people with mental health issues in Islington not currently under the NHS. Research on how exercise positively affects our mental wellbeing is abundant, however there seems to be no provision that specifically targets this area for those on UC. Although GP’s can refer people to the local gym, many people with undiagnosed mental health issues may find walking into a gym intimidating and unsafe. The fact that Healthy Minds Healthy Bodies meet unemployed people beforehand and create a supportive and nurturing atmosphere removes this barrier so that people feel safe and included. The service that HMHB offered is unique and I fully believe it is beneficial for individuals and the local community, especially those signing on."

This is feedback from a user at Haringery WellBeing Network: "absolutely life changing course. Clear, unpatronising, friendly, inventive, funny, informative, and crucial approach to self-care, nutrition, and exercise. Lawrence is a gem, and both he and Oliver were born to be communicators, both are highly skilled at imparting information with great humility, humour, and both possess a wealth of knowledge and great soul. They seem to understand how to incorporate these vital life survival skills whilst inside the mind of depression and debilitating anxiety, without ever being anything less than empathetic and caring. Wonderful people. I am so glad I got myself to attend this course."

HMHB is run by people who have experienced depression and abuse, and they use that experience to help others. Funding only comes from grants. Please help.
