Set up in 2014 Hill Pony Resources have found homes for over 100 Dartmoor Hill Ponies that would have otherwise been sent for slaughter. We have also arranged for 2 successful castration clinics where colts and stallions were returned to the moor as geldings where they will not add to the overbreeding problem. We aim to give as many ponies as possible basic handling before they go to their new homes, however our current facilities are limited and consist of mainly of grazing with shelter which become extremely wet and muddy in the winter this makes it extremely difficult for us to work with the ponies. Improved facilities will help us to continue with our work and grow as an organisation.
As well as providing care and training for ponies we have also provided work experience placements (for college students) and enabled therapy and rehabilitation opportunities for people. We would like to expand on this work and provide a service which will continue to enable people in the future. We want to continue to support responsible pony breeders on Dartmoor and we can do this by improving the facilities at HPR. Ponies from Dartmoor are valuable assets and we want to promote them both in their wild environment and their credibility when the leave the moor. Our aim is to have a facility that will be welcoming to visitors who will benefit from interaction with Dartmoor Hill Ponies. We can do all of this with your help.........
