Story
The people who make our clothes are facing impossible challenges as a Covid variant 15 times more lethal sweeps through India. We’ve decided to launch a fund raiser to contribute to the welfare of our makers and the communities they live in. As a brand we rely on the natural resources and skilled craftsmanship that comes from this amazing country. Additionally, as a designer India has creatively inspired me and given me the drive to build my business. We owe so much to our makers and it’s important to us that we do what we can to support them through this extremely challenging time.
If you have purchased from Henri in the last 6 months, it’s highly likely that the garment was hand stitched in our small factory in Bangalore. If you’ve bought from us in the last 4 years, you may own a piece of clothing made from Kala cotton, hand made in the region of Kutch. Both of these units have been instrumental to our journey and we want to do as much as possible to contribute to their welfare at this time.
We are aiming to raise £1000 which we will split between these 2 organisations.
£500 will be sent to Shivangi who runs our small factory in Bangalore. This money will help to provide health insurance for her staff and cover their wages until they can return to work. The factory is currently closed until staff are vaccinated. (Garment production is still allowed to operate under Indian guidelines but Shivangi took the decision to stay closed to keep her staff safe).
The remaining £500 will be sent to Kutch Karuna Abhiyan, an organisation providing aid in the region of Kutch, India’s largest district with far flung remote villages. This organisation was made aware to us by Khamir (our fabric supplier) who sent an appeal for aid. The donations will help to provide e-consultations to remote villages, distribution of safety equipment, community kitchens and tiffin systems, establishing quarantine centres in urban slums and to fund vaccination camps. This organisation is covering 100,000 families including 3000 craft artisans (some of whom have woven our fabrics).
