Story
On Monday the 24th of October 2022 at 8:40am a popular, kind-hearted,
Southport man, in his early 30's, called Samuel Latham was devastatingly found dead under Southport Pier near the ex Casino.
Samuel battled for years with his mental health diagnosis for years, but always managed to have a cheeky grin on his face.
I had the absolute pleasure of working a couple of years with Sam in Birch Abbey, and he always managed to make everybody laugh in one way or other! I remember Sam as being strong and harmless with a heart of gold and a cheeky sense of humour. Sam had a big booming laugh and although he had some demons he was a big friendly giant.
Sam had lots of acquaintances, work colleagues (past and present) and friends, but this didn't stop him from struggling; he was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in his late teens. This never stopped Sam being approachable and good-humoured. He was often seen dressed up doing kareoke in the local bar, or recording YouTube Videos of him singing. Samuel had a lot of talent, ability and a flair for life.
The circumstances surrounding Sam's death aren't clear at present and are sadly: unexplained.
There is an investigation taking place, and the CCTV is being looked at. I hope everyone will join me in keeping our fingers crossed for some answers into this catastrophic loss of life. The inquest and post -mortem are undergoing. (as of today at 17:11 26/10/2022 after conversation with Sharon Latham.)
This news has shocked and saddened Sam's poor family - nobody should have to plan their son's funeral.
I'm crying as I write this, but with Sam's Mums permission: I'm setting this up to seek absolutely ANY financial help towards the funeral. Sharon is now expected to find thousands of pounds and any help atall- whether it's 50p or £50, will make a massive difference. I know money will not bring Sam back, nor change what's happened, but hopefully we can make this heartbreaking process SOMEWHAT less destructive.
