How is this possible?

Eloah is a 17 months old that lives in Brazil. When she was 6 months of age, she was diagnosed with SMA ( SPINAL MUSCULAR ATROPHY TYPE 1).

That's where it all started. Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a rare, degenerative disease passed from parent to child that interferes with the body's ability to produce a protein essential for the survival of motor neurons, responsible for the body's simple vital voluntary gestures such as breathing, swallow and move. In the USA a millionaire drug touted as a cure for one of the most lethal genetic diseases has been approved for sale and is already bringing hope to families around the world. At a cost of $ 2.1 million (about £1,750,000 million a single dose), Zolgensma promises to eliminate spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a disease that affects 1 in 10,000 newborns and could lead to death or require the use of breathing machine for the rest of the life.

Such an expensive medicine comes inhuman, but that's not the only obstacle Eloah faces. Zolgensma must be taken before 2 years of age. Eloah currently receives treatment with Spiranza which causes SMA to stop developing, but this treatment is costly (about £ 57,000 each dose) and the child will need this medicine every 4 months for the rest of her life.
