UPDATE: 27/08/2022 - A thank you from Alex & Joella:

Hi everyone,

We wanted to reach out now that we’re both thankfully home and say the biggest heartfelt thank you for all of the incredible generosity and support that has been flooding in on this page. Without your help we wouldn’t be where we are now, healing and recovering together. We are so so grateful!

A little update on both of us,

Since flying home at the end of July, after a tricky couple of weeks getting his treatment started in the UK, Alex has since had his jaw and cheekbone surgery by the incredible team at QMC and is recovering really well. Unfortunately his collarbone is still badly broken and has caused some nerve damage in Alex’s arm, this has meant that they won’t operate until more tests such as MRI’s and nerve conduction studies have taken place so it’s been a slow and difficult process to get this all done. We are really hoping there will be a plan in place by the end of September as to when his collarbone and shoulder will be fixed. Since coming home, Alex’s other injuries such as his back and chest have been checked over and he’s well on his way to making a great recovery.

Joella is SO happy to have Alex home and is also recovering well. All of her injuries have now been checked in the UK, where they did find a few extra fractures that hadn’t been fixed in Bali and have been causing some discomfort such as a fractured elbow and unfortunately 2 extra fractured vertebrae in her back (ouch!). She’s waiting for some further tests to see if she’ll need more surgery but hopefully not! The rest of her injuries are slowly healing with a few extra tests for her head and knee in the near future to help with some pain and she’s started some incredible physiotherapy and counselling to help get her back to feeling herself again.

All in all, truly none of this would be happening if it wasn’t for everyone’s support and donations and we’ll never stop being so overwhelmed and grateful from it all.
