Story

I have decided to try and raise money for two organisations. The first is Value Independence. I have chosen this Charity after reading a wonderful book called Letter to Louis, written by Alison White about her life, and her family’s life, caring for Louis. If you haven’t already read the book, I encourage you to do so. Louis was delivered by emergency C section at 32 weeks, and suffered severe brain damage and has cerebral palsy and learning difficulties. Louis’ story has inspired me in many ways, and I know as I am battling my way around the London Marathon, Louis will be in my thoughts. Value Independence is one of the organisations which has provided help and support to Louis and I would like to raise funds for them. The organisation provides support to help people to gain new skills, improve confidence and become more independent, whether it be within their own home or within the community. In particular, they are struggling at the moment for funds for a full disabled toilet with tracking hoist and lift in their building. It would be amazing to help them achieve this aim. The second Charity is Bradford Hospitals Children’s Charity. For the past few years I have Chaired the Charity’s Bid Panel, which allocates funds for many and varied things with the aim of improving the quality of service and care for patients and carers in Bradford. Any monies raised will be split equally between the two.
