At Hedwig’s, we’re just coming into our busy period! We’ve seen an uptick in calls and also our first babies of the season!

Behind the scenes, we’ve now finished releasing all of our overwintered casualties, and our new unit is now almost completely operational! We have a couple of finishing touches to make, but they’ll come in due course.

We’re putting together a fundraiser to cover our expenses that come with the uptick of calls we’re receiving — hedgehogs are mostly out of hibernation now and beginning to have babies, and requests for our help are increasing.

With us receiving more calls, our expenses are increasing in areas like:

- Food (especially our specialist foods like Royal Canin Puppy Mousse and Babycat Biscuits)

- Medications

- Veterinary Consultation Fees and Procedure Fees

- Single Use Equipment (sterile syringes, needles and microscope slides)

- Fuel and Electricity

Funds raised from this will go towards ensuring we can remain open and at full capacity over Spring and into Summer. We’ve recently stocked up on a lot of our consumable products, but we know how fast these can be used! Last year was our first experience of a true busy season, so we’re far more prepared this time around.

This fundraiser will allow us to ensure that we can provide help to every hedgehog that we receive a call for — our original capacity in 2021 was 6 hedgehogs, which we raised multiple times to 10, 15, 24, 30, 32 and finally to 35, but we anticipate more calls this year and want to make sure that we are able to respond.
