Story

As we all know the cost of energy is unbelievably high even before the rise in April.

The extra cost of looking after the hogs is £200 a month according to our meter readings — we were with a company who has since gone under.

We are only a small rescue who are self funded and receive supply donations through our supporters. Last year, we were caring for up to 30 hedgehogs at a time, taking in those who were sick, injured, orphaned or a combination of those.

We use a significant amount of electricity for our hedgehogs to, including but not limited to: Heating, the microwave, boiling water to make baby formula, the washing machine (2+ loads daily), the tumble dryer (1+ loads daily), our incubators and our nebuliser. In Summer, we also run an air conditioning unit to prevent our hedgehogs overheating.

We’ve just had our bill through for the previous 3 months for £600.

We’re reaching out to our community to help pay for this, or raise enough to cover a portion of this. Your donations are really important here — if we pay from our previously raised funds, this will leave us in the position of potentially not being able to afford more expensive vet care like x-rays or operations until we fundraise again.

Any excess we raise will be put towards our future electricity bills and caring for the hedgehogs by paying for specialist food, medications and veterinary care.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this,

Our cover photo is of Garcia and her litter who were disturbed by garden work and the image below is of Little One who was 215g and very skinny upon arrival and is now 550g and gaining every day.
