Iʼm raising £2,000 to To improve the playground at Heath Park, Cardiff

Story

Heath Residents Association along with a large number of local residents are keen to see improvements to the playground at Heath Park. We are working with other community groups and local Councillors to seek improvements to the play area to make it accessible for all children, of all ages, regardless of any disabilities. We've been able to add an accessible swing by working with local Councillors but we think there is more to be done.
Every child has a right to play. Unfortunately the current playground isn't fully inclusive and accessible for all children. Being so close to UHW we feel very strongly that accessible play equipment is urgently needed. For example, an accessible roundabout, plus equipment that will appeal to all age groups such as a bucket swing and zip wire. We will work in conjunction with Cardiff Council to secure improvements. A whole new play area is the ultimate goal but failing that the money will be used to purchase or improve individual pieces of equipment and improvements to the play area.
We know funding is in short supply. We are not classed as a deprived area and there is no new house building locally that can attract funding. We have approached Cardiff Council who have confirmed this position. We are working towards making a bid for National Lottery funding. As part of that application we must show that the whole community is united and that we have come together to raise funds ourselves.
We strongly believe this equipment would be a valuable asset to both local children and those staying at the UHW. Children frim UHW who visit the dreams and wishes garden in Heath park can see the playground but as its not fully accessible they often cannot join in. We are concerned about the impact on all children that a playground that they can’t access can have on well-being and self esteem. This must change and be a place where families can come together. How can Wales largest hospital not have a fully accessible play area in the adjacent park!

Hi everyone, thank you so much for your donation and support. The team at Heath Residents Association are meeting with council officials on 21st March to discuss our ambitions. We know that an accessible roundabout costs about £7000 so we really need to keep the fundraising going. Please keep sharing and if you have ideas to raise funds please get in touch on hrasite@gmail.com. Diolch!
