Story
Ours is an incredible project, saving and bettering the lives of Mauritian street-dogs, of which there are thousands. Happy Tails is to be a no cage / no kill sanctuary where these ill-treated animals can live a free and open life among their own. We aim to rescue and humanely care for those in greatest need, and then to re-educate this small island nation as how best to care for man’s best friend. Change is coming.
MSAW, the Mauritian Society for Animal Welfare is useless and it behaves appallingly towards animals and all of those who offer solutions to solve the ‘stray’ issues there. They are a government body entrusted to care for the nation’s animals, yet it is they who brutally kill dogs, stabbing lethal injections into their hearts whilst the others watch and wait their turn. Mass murder sounds strong, yet it is precisely that. Leaked footage of this heinous behaviour has placed Mauritius firmly on the animal cruelty map, directly affecting tourism, which is the island’s largest industry. Yet still they do nothing.Currently there are no such shelters on the island, so all strays are captured, held for three days, then executed.
Help us put an end to this inhumane treatment by contributing towards the opening of Happy Tails Sanctuary Mauritius. Any help is most gratefully received.

7 years agoLatest news: We have been offered land from 2 private enterprises. VERY grateful for that! With the support of the Ministry of Education I am pleased to announce that we will be able to start our educational program in Mauritian schools as from January 2018! Very exciting news, as we believe this is where the BIG shift in awareness will stem from for the future. The funds you have kindly donated will be going towards setting up our foundation, print material for the schools and the rest for towards the sanctuary build. Many thanks again x

Cannot wait to see Mauritius FINALLY having a sanctuary and that all the animals who don't have a place to call home get to have a safe place to call home and get the love and care that they deserve.

Upon moving back to Mauritius, realising the state of affairs with regards to the stray dog population here, my husband and I decided we were going to do something radical about it. Happy Tails Sanctuary is the solution. Please join us on our quest of peace, love and compassion.
